Hi I compressed some video using Sharktooths x264 binaries. When I produce mp4, I can playback it OK with BSP+FFD. When I produce mkv, BSP makes black screen, VLC eats all processing power and does nothing. None of these I can load in avs using DirectShowSource. When I try to open the mkv file in MKVMerge, I can't --- it writes File identification failed. For mp4, I at least opened it but when I want to make new matroska file, it writes "Warning: Quicktime/MP4 reader: Unknown/unsupported FourCC 'avc1' for track 1. Warning: 'D:\_download\WMV\Trailer-jvt15.mp4': No tracks will be copied from this file. This usually indicates a mistake in the command line." I tried changing FourCC in the combobox in the MeGUI settings tab (avc1 or x264) but the result were two identical files. When I made same clip using GKnot (probably little different settings), mkv works in both BSP and avs.

Update the matroska splitter filters. x264 uses the "native AVC mode" in MKV. VDM doesnt support it and directshow applications need updated filters.

1) go 2) download mkvtoolnix 3) try the megui file again with the mkvmerge included there

OK, matroska works, thanks much... normally I would have upgraded by myself, but I was confused, that VDM x264.mkv worked and MeGUI x264.mkv not. BTW: Have you ever put .mp4 to avisynth? Now the .mkv works so it's not so important. Just curious.

loading .mp4 into avs should work exactly the same way as with .mkv via directshowsource()

I've never had much luck playing .mkv files produced by MeGUI in VLC player. I suggest using Haali's Media splitter with Celtic Druids latest version FFDshow in WMP.
