Anyone into a bit of classical music? I'd love some feedback on a mix.

Hey guys, I have severe listening fatigue so I could really use a fresh pair of ears. The piece is Bach's Coffee Cantata which isn't very well known but it's a small comedy opera about caffeine addiction. The recording uses period instruments and tunings. The recording is a spatial recording using a Fukada tree made in a relatively small rehearsal room. Thanks, Ollie

Violas and intonation ... eesh ;-) I like the stereo image and over all clarity though the feel is a bit harsh. Maybe some help in the lower end and a little relief in the upper mids would smooth things out?

Thanks Leecow! Haha they do take a while to get into it I agree! I've toned down a bit of EQ which was causing the harshness, The problem was the singers were behind the loud ensemble so they are overpowered by the instruments, my attempt at using eq to bring them out obviously is just bringing harshness of other instruments out too.

Also take extreme care with EQ when mixing live shows, since minimum-phase equaluzers change the phase, so generally attempt to only apply EQ on the main bus but not to individual tracks. Definitely avoid minimum-phase HPF in this context. HPF changes the phase the most, and the steeper it is the more the impact. So for live shows, either use HPF on the main bus or use exactly the same parameters on individual tracks. You can use linear-phase, but it generally tends to make music sound like sh*t.
